Bell Biv DeVoe, also known as BBD, is an all boys group that has formed member from the group New Edition. It consists of three members from New Edition, Ricky Bell, Michael Bivins, and Ronnie DeVoe. Bell, Bivins, and DeVoe was a group formed by the producers by the names of Jimmy Jam & Terry Lewis. MCA records one day wrote down the name boys last names Bell Bivins DeVoe, but Bivins suggested they remove the ins from his name and just call the group Bell Biv DeVoe , which is also known as BBD. With help from producers Eric Sadler, Hank and Keith Shocklee, and several others, BBD released their first debut album Poison in 1990, on MCA Records. The album was credited as pioneering the "new jack swing" sound of the early 1990s, which is combining hip-hop, funk, soul, and pop music. These types of styles helped to expose them to a fan base who prefer a harder or edger sound. The groups song "Poison" reached number 1 on Billboard's R&B/Hip-Hop chart in the 1990's, and its title track, along with its second single, "Do Me!", both reached number 3 on Billboard's Hot 100 chart. Poison also spawned the singles "B.B.D. (I Thought It Was Me)?", "When Will I See You Smile Again?" and "She's Dope!" Poison sold over four million copies, and was followed up by a remix album titled WBBD-Bootcity. Richard Wolf and Epic Mazur helped create BBD's premiere album, blending rhythm, blues, pop, and rock, and Poison achieve triple Platinum success.

1.It's driving me out of my mindThat's why it's hard for me to findCan't get it outta my headMiss her, kiss her, love her, wrong move you're dead

5. That girl is poison
Never trust a big butt and smileThat girl is poison poison
If I were you I'd take precaution
Before I start to leave fly girl
10. You know 'cause in some portionsYou'll think she's the best thing in the world
She's so fly, she'll drive you right out of your mind
Steal your heart when you're blindBeware she's schemin', she'll make you think you're dreamin'
15. You'll fall in love and you'll be screamin' dreamin'
Poison deadly moving it slow
Looking for a mellow fellow like DeVoeGetting paid laid so better lay lowSchemin' on hots my end the pro show

It’s all about love and why you should not trust. In the beginning of the song lines one through five. He is looking for love and its driving him insane. She makes him miss her, wanna kiss, her and love her but she’s just a distracting. She becomes a distraction because of her appearance. “Wrong move you’re dead” they say in the song. There had been a rumor for years that the actual lyrics are “Rob Moore, you’re dead.” Rob Moore was a wide receiver at Syracuse University, drafted in 1990 to the New York Jets. Rumor had it that Rob Moore stole Bivins’s girlfriend at Syracuse; this is why Biv is wearing Syracuse gear in the video. This story is apocryphal at best. Starting at line five they state she is poison meaning she is harmful. Females that have a very nice body shape and a pretty smile are the ones you have to watch out for. Those types of females that are smart, tough, and deadly. Looking at line ten some of her qualities may seem appealing but it’s all based of deception, in order to trick her men. She has a nice personality, looks, and beautiful body frame. By now she’ll scheme to make you fall in love with her. By the time you realize what she’s been doing your bank account will be clean, the only thing you’ll be able to do is scream. Throughout line fifteen through twenty they realize that she’s a gold digger, she’s looking for someone with money and fame so she’s eyeing the crowd and she spots Devoe. He’s saying he needs to lay low so she won’t see him. At line twenty-five the females are at the bar trying to get the men to do what they want them to do and buy what they want. As you can see in the lyrics and throughout the video that very attractive women and men are poison and it will drive you insane. So don’t trust a girl with a cute smile and big butt. Theme: Love Symbolism: using the word Poison referring to the girl being bad , evil, or not good. Rhyme throughout the whole song is rhymes. Meter: If you listen or sing the song you can tell which words are "stressed" or " unstressed"

“When Will I See You Smile Again?”
20th BBD.jpg

1.I'm so sorry baby, I never meant to hurt youPlease forgive me
La da da da da da da La da da da da da da da da oh ho
Tears I see drop from your eyes, Tell me why you cry
5.Guilt I feel when you look at me, Did I let you down
Girl, you see that I, I apologize
Tell me what to do, to get through to you
Girl, it's not the same
I know I was to blame, Just tell me when will I
10.See you smile again
Tell me when will I see you smile again
Cause I know I messed up baby (Oh)
And I know you're fed up (Ooh) sugar (Hey hey)
Tell me when will I see you smile again (Oh, oh, oh)
15.Cause I know I messed up, baby, and I know you're fed up sugar
Promises I know I made many times before, and I broke each one of them
But I had to learn over and over again
Don't hurt the one you love

In the song “When Will I See You Smile Again?” by Bell Biv Devoe it is also about love. In lines one through three sets the tone for the song. The tone is very sad, he is telling his girl that he is really sorry and he never meant to hurt her. Lines four and five he sees her crying and wants to know why, which is why he’s asking if eh let her down. The bridge of the song which is lines six through ten gets deeper into the song. Lines six and seven it seems like he is really sorry for what he has done, but his girl is apparently not listening, and is trying to get the message through to her. The following lines “Rick” and his girl’s relationship is just not the same anymore because of all of his mistakes, and he knows that he is to blame. At the end of the day he just wants to know if he can see her smile again. Eleven through fifteen which is the main hook of the song the tone starts to lighten up. They want to know when they can see their girls smile again, after all the things they have been through and they know they all messed up. Sixteen through eighteen Rick has made so many promises to his girlfriend before, but he kept breaking them. Remember to never hurt the person you gave your heart too. Theme : Love Figurative language: Rhyme in the song towards the end a few of the lines rhymed with each other. Point of view would be first person because they are telling it from their point of view.

“ I Ain’t Going Nowhere”
brown bbd.jpg

1. Baby, you ain't got to worry about meI told you when I'm out here hustlingI'm trying big time to get this moneyI'm just trying to make life better for us you know
5. I love you, girl, believe it, I ain't going nowhereDon't you know that I love youAnd I will never do anything to hurt you, my babyPlease don't goWe've got a good thing going on, yeah yeah yeah
10.Stand by your side through thick and thinAnd I will never go away, 'cause I love you, babyI ain't going nowhereYou can wreck the carI ain't going nowhere
15.You can lose your jobI ain't going nowhereYou can burn the house downStay out all night on the townI ain't going nowhere
20.I want to have some change
I ain't going nowhereI like it just how we didI ain't going nowhereYou can spend up all my things
25.Hang out all night with your friendsI ain't going nowhere'Cause you're my baby
28.My wife, my life

In the song “I Ain’t Going Nowhere” by Bell Biv DeVoe it’s another love song. The main tone of the song is very sad. At the beginning of the song you can sense that Ricky messed up with his girlfriend or wife. He states that they have had so many bad times and they shouldn’t just give up. He wants to keep pushing through all of the bad times that they have had with each other. In lines one through five you Ricky starts off by saying “you aint got to worry about me” when he is grinding and trying to get money, he really is doing that. He is trying his best to give her a better life and that he is actually working not messing around with other females. He is trying to convince her that he is doing all the right things, and that she should believe him. Lines six through ten Ricky says everything that she wants to hear. He says things that’s going to try and make her feel better about the situation, telling her all of the rights things like I’ll never do anything to hurt you. Apparently his wife is not falling for it and is ready to give up on the marriage. Ricky is pleading for her not to leave and to give what they have another chance. He used the time that they have been together as a reason for her not to leave his side. To stick out their issues and to be with him through thick and thin no matter. Lines eleven through twenty-four he gives examples of tragic thing that could happen to her such as, getting into a wreck, or even losing her job .Even if those things happen he will always love her, and never leave her. Throughout those lines he turns into a “sap” telling his wife I want everything to back to normal no matter what happens, because at the end of the day she is his wife and the love of his life. I feel like every relationship has its ups and downs, because nobody is perfect. Every relationship also has its breaking point but it’s between the two lovers to work it out. I also feel sometimes you may get tired of the same of issues that happen throughout the relationship. You can only take so much in a relationship, so once you’re fed you it’s no going back. But sometimes in a relationship you get what you want, but you lose what you have. Just like in then song he was messing around and “got what he wanted” but then “lost what he had” which was his wife. Never leave somebody that is loyal and you have a connection with, because that is hard to find nowadays. But it’s some people in the word that have to bump their heads in order to learn their lesson, but then again you have those people in the world that never chase but always replace. Theme : Love Imagery : You can picture the things he is saying , I pictured a man and wife going through rough times. Symbolism :Hustling on the streets is being symbolized as a job and getting money.

“Please Come Back”

1.When you called and said that you had to go awayI just smiled and thought that I would be okay {Okay}Now you're gone and I don't know just what to doWhenever I'm alone I find myself thinkin' of you
5.Something's happenin' and I don't know what's goin' on {I'm what's goin' on}But this feeling inside of me has grown much too strongI don't know how I can love what's not really thereAnd maybe someday you'll realize that I need you here
Please come back (Oh...) into my life again
10.Let me know you'll want me as your boyfriendCome back into my life again (Oh, girl)
Please come back into my life againLet me know you'll want me as your boyfriend14.Come back into my life again

“Please Come Back” is another of the groups love song, In lines one through five is about the girlfriend leaving and the boyfriend didn’t think that would ever happen. He never thought the day of his girl leaving him would ever come. Often finding himself thinking about her and all that good times they had together. Lines five through ten he starts to feel depressed for the fact that his girl is no longer there. He does not know what happen or what’s going on, such as why his girl is not with him. Lines ten through fourteen he tone becomes “pressed” he really wants to get his girlfriend back and for her to back into her life. It’s not sitting well with him that she won’t come back to him. I personal feel like you can’t force anyone to be with you. If somebody wants to leave the relationship if they leave and never come back, that’s their lost. It no need to worry about someone that isn’t worried about you. If they were meant to be in your life they will make their way back , if not then you know it wasn’t meant to be , Theme : Love Tone: Depressed Imagery: You can picture a man begging and pleading to get his wife back again.
